Finances can be challenging for all seniors and end-of life planning complicated. DSS explores the unique issues facing 2SLGBTQI+ seniors, many of who have questions about making wills, investing, downsizing, avoiding renoviction, living with limited income and much more. Making wills, living wills and end-of-life planning — Simon Fraser University Department of Gerontology, headed by professor Gloria Gutman with DSS Board member Robert Beringer, has done some excellent work around 2SLGBTQI+ Seniors and has an excellent resource page here.

For non-2SLGBTQI+ generic senios’ information such as the Canadian Pension Plan and OAS we defer to the amazing work of our partners such as 411 Seniors Centre Society who we work closely with, and trust they can provide culturally appropiate servcie and information.

Intersecting cultures create some specific requirements and considerations. We aim to respect these intersections by ensuring we have diverse board members that can connect with communities and give voice to their needs. We also encourage the development of culturally relevant information for all 2SLGBTQI+ community members. Here are some useful resources:
